At Jacobs Clinic we have both QbCheck and QbTest. These tests from QbTech are recognised by NICE, FDA cleared and CE marked ADHD tests for use in patients aged 6-60.

QbTest is an FDA-cleared test measuring all 3-core symptom domains; hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattention. QbTest involves a 15 or 20 - minute computer based task that measures your ability to maintain attention, activity and impulse control. Meanwhile, an infrared camera tracks movements, and therefore activity, during the test. The results are based on a comparison of your performance with data from other people of the same sex and age who do not have ADHD.

How to prepare for a QbTest?

  • Try to ensure adequate sleep the night before the test

  • Avoid consuming excessive amounts of caffeine the day of the test

  • If you are to be tested while on ADHD medication, please ensure that you take the medication
as directed. (Our clinic will schedule the test a specific number of hours after the medication is taken,
depending on the type of medication.)

  • For a child, explain that they will be taking a test on a computer which is designed to be boring.
Inform the child that they will wear a headband during the test, but that it does not hurt. They will be
seated in a room by themselves, but a family member can stand outside if helpful.

QbTest Jacobs Clinic

What does the Qbtest set up look like?

The test equipment consists of an infrared camera, a headband with an infrared marker attached to it,
a laptop, and a responder button.

What to expect at the Qbtest?

The test will last 15 - 20 mins dependent on your age.

During the QbTest you will be asked to:

  • sit in front of a computer screen

  • a soft flexible head band will be placed around your head with a reflective ball attached to
measure your movement during the test

  • you will hold the responder button in one of your hands

  • you will click in response to certain shapes you see on the screen

  • the test will automatically end after the required time

Results

The raw data is available immediately after the test is completed. However, our specialist doctor must first interpret the data together with other relevant information. The initial assessment or a follow up appointment will be arranged with our doctor.

What if I just want the QbTest, or what if my doctor has completed the other aspects of the screen and has only requested the QbTest?

Sometimes clinicians, both NHS or private may want to refer their patients to our service to access just the QbTest, or for families to only want to access this part. If you only want to access the QbTest due to any of the above reasons, please let us know when booking your appointment. We are able to send the results to the patient’s clinician on the same day of the test. We can offer this test for patients aged 6 to 60.

QbCheck is a 15- 20-minute home based computer task that measures attention, impulse control, and activity levels. The webcam on your laptop or desktop tracks your movements during the test (it does not record images of you, only your movements). The results compare your performance with data from other people of the same sex and age who do not have ADHD. You will be sent full instructions prior to the test.

What is the difference between QbCheck and QbTest?

QbCheck is actually derived from the QbTest. Both these tests from QbTech are recognised by NICE, FDA cleared and CE marked ADHD tests.

The QbTest is a computerised assessment, using a high-resolution motion tracking system to measure inattention and impulsivity to provide an objective measure of these variables. The QbCheck is a similar online assessment but is designed for use in a home or school setting. It uses a computer’s built-in webcam to track activity, rather than a more advanced motion tracking system. Studies have shown that this check is equivalent to the QbTest in detecting symptoms of ADHD. For more information about our Adult ADHD assessment click here
